“A Healthy Economy Should Be Designed to Thrive Not Grow PDF Summary”

There’s saying – Stagnation doesn’t exist, if you are not going up, don’t be surprised if you hit the bottom sooner rather than later. The society guided by the same logic tires to intertwine progress and growth in order to get the idea of how useful or misleading our beliefs have become.

Let’s take newborns for example – For instance what would happen if the baby is left to learn on its own? The baby would eventually try to walk and feed itself. As you can see, even genetics tell you that humans are prone to expansion and learning.

In the early 1930s, just about the time Europe was covered in darkness due to the Economic Collapse, economist developed or create the GDP – Gross Domestic Product. It was formed on the grounds of observing and ultimately finding a stable solution to economic fluctuations.

Is growth all we need? According to 1960 classic – “The Stages of Economic Growth” such hypocrisy depicts all levels of progressive society, in which the final stage is actually mass consumerism. Such authentic predictions call into question the core of the modern society!

Perhaps, the author even chooses harsh words to portray all people as growth-junkies. Being financially and politically oriented towards expansion leads to vast social differences and inequality on a global scale. Politicians try to paint quite a picture when they present the new financial reality!

The destabilization rather occurs, because growth is somehow an exclusive right to 1% of the people, who take all the credit for everyone’s hard work. So, it’s evident that growth is not the best option!

Kate Raworth is not joking when she claims that society must replace the growth-pattern driven by money-making machinery. For real progress to work, we must stretch the boundaries by perceiving financial momentum in different ways.

This new model should include various standards that will then launch a full-scale campaign in evaluating the societal prosperity. Kate emphasizes the doughnut, which signifies the plight of those living without access to basic human necessities such as water and healthcare.

The main or as Kate named it “the dual challenge” is to bring population’s needs in line with the ever-lasting progression. The doughnut phenomenon, explains how and why people have already failed in establishing a stable base for handling these challenges.

There’s a scarcity of resources, and that’s not the worst part. Nature implies that growth doesn’t come absent cost, and upon reaching maturity people should take a break.

In reality, promoting growth as an eternal process is something similar to writing your own death sentence. Any thriving system must learn to distinguish between temporary phase and long-lasting stability.

There are not any side effects, which in one way or the other affect human innovativeness and creativity. Boundaries have proved to be a useful ally in propelling people to go upward and sparking their ingenuity.
